About me

Hypnotherapy is a most effective and wonderful way to help with so many concerns. I am delighted to be able to offer people the opportunity to step out of whatever it is that might be holding them back and move forward into a happier and more successful future. With training in Counselling and Psychotherapy as well, I am experienced in working with a wide variety of problems in a sensitive, non judgemental, safe and empathetic way. Learning about how your mind works and enjoying the relaxing and positive trance work, can not only help you overcome your problems but can also open the door to a happier future and with newly learned skills. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses clinically proven and up to date techniques that help to free clients from issues that have held them back or made them miserable in a fast, effective and long lasting way. If you have been suffering from any form of anxiety, depression or anger and the resultant problems, you have made the first vital step towards helping yourself by reading this and should be congratulated for that.

Modern solution focused Hypnotherapy avoids past reminiscing and keeps clients focused on positive improvements. This can be very reassuring for clients who do not wish to go over past events.

Hypnotherapy is extremely useful and is recommended for moving a client forward often more swiftly and effectively than pure 'talking' therapy. It is helpful for changing unconscious habits and overcoming self destructive behaviour (as well as accessing past memories if one chooses). It does not rely on hours of analytical therapy in order to understand why one has a particular issue, although it can also be very illuminating and insightful. The aim is for positive effective change with achievable goals. Hypnotherapy is solution focused and yet it often involves that enlightening 'light bulb' moment. It is conducive to short term therapy but can be offered as a part of longer term treatment.

There is nothing strange or other worldy about hypnotherapy and the client never looses control. It works by allowing communication between one's subconscious and conscious mind and therefore accessing areas that one is often unaware of in our waking state. This not only reaches possible blockages or negative habitual patterns but also taps into wonderful abilities and strengths that lie dormant in one's mind. It can be an exciting and profound way to understand and to accept oneself and encourages self development.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and it can be extremely relaxing. Trance is a natural process and an ability that we all possess, for example when we immerse ourselves in a good movie. I teach self hypnosis to practise at home and this improves the experience and process.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified therapist having graduated from The University of Warwick in 1984 with a 2:1 degree BA (Hons) and worked in commerce for several years.

In my late twenties I entered the much more fulfilling world of therapeutic practice and trained in Oxford and then at St.Charles Hospital In London at The UK Training College of Hypnotherapy and Counselling in the early 1990s and graduated from The UK College for Complementary Health Care Studies in 1995.

In addition I took up advanced studies with the Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training and graduated with a Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. This exciting modern therapy not only incorporates all of the latest neurological research but also moves clients forward without having to reminisce about past events. We work towards client's particular goals with specific techniques in a positive, uncomplicated and gentle way. I am a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

Having lived and worked abroad in the USA and South Africa for several years I moved back to North Oxford and see clients in a peaceful, relaxing and comfortable environment. Therapy is private, non judgmental and in the strictest of confidence. Being in my early 50s I have substantial life experience that helps me to bring even more understanding and empathy to what my clients are going through.

I am DBS checked for children and vulnerable adults.

CHOOSING THERAPY

Hypnotherapy, Counselling and Psychotherapy are becoming more popular; yet some people hesitate, perhaps because they do not understand what therapy is about or because of some imagined public stigma from an age before it was so accepted. Just as one would go to a Doctor or an alternative practitioner for physical symptoms, it is just as important to attend to one’s mind. We are becoming more and more aware that holistically mind and body are integrally interconnected. People owe it to themselves to seek help and support and not to suffer often alone with issues weighing them down or disrupting their lives.  Pushing problems to the back of one's mind can cause more stress at some point, and is merely putting a plaster over the wound. It is far healthier to look at issues and stressors and work towards positive solutions and at times acceptance and hopefully a happier and more balanced life.

Visiting a therapist is in fact something to be applauded. It shows that a person recognises they have some level of stress that is negatively affecting their lives. They not only have self-awareness, the first step for positive change, but they are also taking the responsibility to improve themselves. This can be very empowering and is a step towards regaining some control in one’s life. All therapy is really self-therapy and it does require some work and commitment to one’s own healing. Therapy can be at times relaxing, revealing, challenging, enlightening and even exciting, depending on one’s issues and the stage of the process. The therapist is merely an experienced guide and support through the client’s process. Therapy moves at the client’s own pace and what one is comfortable with. Sometimes a person simply needs the relief of sharing their experiences and feelings in a non-judgmental, confidential, caring and safe haven of support.
