KAREN MISTLIN B.A, FdA Couns.,Adv.Dip CBT, DipCHyp,NLP Prac
I work as an experienced Counsellor and Cognitive Hypnotherapist, enabling Clients (age 16 plus) to reach their fullest potential by helping them to work through and reframe negative thinking that may be limiting their ability to enjoy life in the most positive way.
Past or present experience may have affected a person's outlook on life and how they perceive themselves. Therapy encourages clients to not only improve how they relate to others in their lives but most importantly how they relate to themselves.
I am able to combine a variety of therapeutic approaches including person-centred counselling, CBT methods and Cognitive Hypnotherapy. In collaboration with clients I am able to provide an individual therapeutic approach designed to specifically help them to personally develop in whatever way it right for them.
I work in an empathic and non judgemental way, providing a therapeutic environment where clients can be free to be themselves and to grow in self knowledge, mindful at all times of focusing on how to help clients move forward in the lives at their own pace, and towards their goals.
Issues such as:
Depression / bereavement / anxiety / stress / anger management / relationship issues / life changes / low self esteem/ low levels of confidence / existential issues/ weight loss/ phobias/insomnia/ exam stress/Obcessive Compulsive Disorder/Post Traumatic Stress
"Hi Karen, the exam actually went really well! All the questions came up that I wanted I had a minor panic midway through but I had my Rosemary (NLP Anchoring Technique) so I managed to keep calm and together. I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you for helping me through the last stretch of Uni. I never thought I'd be in a position where I could walk out of an exam feeling happy! Thank you so much for everything."
"Hi Karen, thank you this is really helpful (sent an exercise to client on day of her exam) I used it before my C1 exam and I really appreciate you sending this. I used the Spinning Wheel technique and the Havening Technique before and during the C1 exam. Both techniques made my panicking subside and the paper went well! I really appreciate your help, I could not have done well on that paper without your guidance. Many thanks."
“Thank you for helping me to re-frame my personal context and change my life. Something within us responds to people who level with us. There is official truth and ground truth. How wonderful to start experiencing ground truth. Before we learn, we must unlearn. Empty the cup. I needed trust and security and no conditions to start the process. Small steps! With appreciation and gratitude.”
“Hypnotherapy has given me a greater understanding about myself and others, and the space to work through my most difficult memories and experiences. It’s also empowered me to change my own behaviour and have much healthier and happier relationships than ever before”
” You have really helped me in what I feel was such a short of space of time, I can’t believe how much more positive and better I feel – I don’t know what I would have done without your help!”
“I started seeing Karen because life felt very difficult . I couldn’t even tell you why, but life seemed too much to deal with, and I didn’t want it to be. It is hard to explain what has changed, or how, just that now life doesn’t feel so impossible. There wasn’t a magic cure, Karen just helped me to develop the skills and confidence to believe in myself and change the way I was thinking. Now it feels like there are things to look forward to and be excited by, I have started to live, rather than just exist.”
“I am very grateful to Karen for her personalised approach, and for helping me to regain confidence, particularly in my communication and presentation skills. Being the first time I had tried hypnotherapy, CBT and NLP, I felt like I was in safe hands with Karen, who made me feel at ease and was there to answer any questions I had throughout.”
"Thank you so much for helping me to overcome my fear of water which has been an obstacle for a large part of my life. When I first asked I had no idea the change that would come from within me as a result of you and your ability to talk to my subconscious. I am finding that I am more confident in a number of areas of my life. The tape you did especially for me is of great benefit when I have had a stressful day and your voice really relaxes me and calms me. I would have no hesitation in recommending your services in the future".
"Just thought you'd like to know that my presentation went well, to nearly 70 people in the end. No notes and some good feedback too. Had a few negative demons in the morning of the meeting but with your help I knew how to squash them so thanks for everything. I can't say I will ever enjoy presenting or will look forward to it, but at least I now know I can do it..........!
"Karen was a pleasure to meet with. Her attitude was extremely positive and encouraging.Working with Karen has cleared some issues which had been terribly limiting and I am continuing to notice improvements everyday. The therapy was very personal and I always felt clearly understood and in control of my own goals.I have also learnt some interesting things and would thoroughly recommend."
"I went to see Karen for hypnotherapy treatment as I had been suffering from an increasing claustrophobia problem which had meant I suffered severe anxiety attacks in lifts, low underground car parks, on an airplane and in other confined spaces. I was determined to beat it but my own attempts at overcoming it through exposure to the problem were not working.
Karen's treatment left me feeling very calm and aware of my ability to stay calm in previously stressful situations and I am happy to report I got on a plane to Greece in the summer without any feelings of anxiety at all. I remembered how I used to feel but did not experience the feelings. It was fantastic and liberating! Thank you Karen! "
"I started to see Karen after I was told I needed to have an MRI scan for an ongoing problem. On the day of the scan I couldn't go through with it due to a combination of claustrophobia and a fear of not being able to "escape". Karen quickly put me at ease on our initial meeting and the recording she did for me was wonderful (I am still using it now if I feel stressed and need to relax). After only a couple of sessions with Karen and listening to the recording every day I managed to have an MRI scan and whilst I won't say I wasn't a little apprehensive about it, I knew that the feelings I was experiencing were absolutely normal and more importantly I had an inner confidence that I could manage these feelings and all would be fine. I have found the hypnosis sessions fascinating and will definitely be seeing Karen again soon for some more help with other issues."
I have found the session with Karen to have been very beneficial. I didn't really know what to expect having had no prior experience of hypnotherapy but Karen's warm, caring style eased any fears very quickly. At no point did I feel out of control or vulnerable, I felt relaxed and most importantly confident that Karen placed the same level of importance on the issue I was describing as I did. The results have been very rapid and I'm very glad that I took the step I did.
I can't thank you enough for helping me find what is truly important to me. You have shown me how to build the confidence to live without a crippling fear of judgement, and to simply enjoy life like I never had before.
"I am very pleased that I recently 'took the plunge' & decided on Karen for hypnotherapy treatment. I've had a fear of flying for many years, despite travelling by plane very frequently. I have also become anxious when skiing, feeling very tense on more difficult slopes. I had 3 sessions with Karen, after which I felt so relaxed when I flew recently to the French Alps for a family skiing holiday where I then felt much more confident & in control on the ski slopes. I would urge anyone who has similar concerns or phobias to contact Karen who is very patient & understanding & her therapy works."
