Patterns in the brain…..

Our brains are made up of many millions of individual patterns, circuits or modules.  Some of these patterns we are born with – we don’t have to learn how to feel hungry we just do. Other patterns are imprinted early in our life, such as the language we speak. Still others we have to learn by application and repetition, such as how to play a musical instrument.

It’s these patterns that produce our ‘behaviours’, the different aspects of our overall personality, and our instinctive reactions.  All these patterns, to an extent, act as ‘mini brains’ and do their own thing.  There’s no one central control post - they kind of talk among themselves and make some kind of agreement about what’s going on in the world and what we should do next. But sometimes they don’t and that can cause us problems – why you sometimes do ‘dumb’ things or seem like you’re two or more different people. Sometimes we can become ‘locked’ into unhelpful patterns  like anxiety, depression or anger. Also these patterns don’t just run on logic or words or we would all be masters of our ‘will power’.

Patterns can be hidden …..

The workings and purpose of many of these patterns is mainly outside of our conscious awareness – they are hidden in our unconscious. They are activated by triggers in our internal and external environment, kick in very fast so we respond automatically before we consciously realise or can control our responses. Which is why we sometimes do the wrong thing even when we know what we should do. Or why being highly motivated and wanting to do the right thing isn’t enough to make us do it.

Re-pattern for success

I offer Hypno-psychotherapy which combines two powerful approaches, solution focused psychotherapy and hypnosis. These are the tools we use to gain insight into the patterns which drive us, to access the patterning brain states with which we can work most effectively and to re-pattern to gain relief from those which are damaging or painful.

The focus is on accessing and creating new patterns and ways of being which develop your own individual strengths and resources.

Training, qualifications & experience

Dr Janis Wilson

DPhil; BSc; DHypPsych; NLP

Dr J gained her first degree in Biochemistry & Physiology at London University before progressing to achieve her doctorate at Oxford University.

She has a Diploma in Solution Focused Psychotherapy & Hypnotherapy and is a Master Practitioner of NLP including Time Line Therapy.

She has studied extensively and qualified across a wide range of other therapeutic approaches including Body Harmony, Educational Kinesiology and Touch for Health.

She has many years experience in business consulting, change management and executive coaching. She also advises major advertisers on patterns of motivational and psychological influence.
She is currently studying Contemporary Psychotherapy.
