Profile

I have been a therapist for over 12 years and during that time have helped many people back to good health. As well as being a Hypnotherapist I am a Reiki Master and Bowen Therapist.
My clinic is run from my home in Hampton Magna, within easy walking distance from Warwick Parkway station or if you come by car there is plenty of parking room on  my drive. I work most days of the week with some weekend appointments being available I also offer evening appointments.

What is Hynotherapy?

The term hypnosis comes from the Greek word hypnos, meaning 'sleep.' Hypnotherapists use exercises that bring about a state of deep relaxation and an altered state of consciousness also known as trance. A person in a deeply focussed state is unusually responsive to an idea or image but this does not mean that the hypnotherapist can control the person's mind or free will, on the contrary, hypnosis can actually teach people to master their own state of awareness. By so doing they can affect their own bodily functions and awareness.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

When something happens to us we remember it and learn a particular behaviour in response to what has happened. Each time something similar happens our physical and emotional reactions attached to the memory are repeated. In some cases these reactions are unhealthy. In some forms of hypnosis the therapist will guide you through the event that led to the first reacation, separate the emory from the learned behaviour and replace unhealthy behaviours with new, helathier ones.

What wil happen to me during a treatment?

During hypnosis your body relaxes and your thoughts become more focussed. Like other relaxation techniques, hypnosis lowers blood pressure and heart rate and changes certain types of brainwave activity. In this relaxed state you will feel physically at ease and yet fully awake mentally and may be highly responsive to suggestion. If you are trying to quit smoking for example, it may be possible to convince you that you will not like the taste of cigarettes in the future.

What can hypnotherapy help with?
There is a long list of conditions that hypnotherapy can help with. Some of the more well known ones are:- addictions, weightloss, stopping smoking, lack of confidence and low self esteem, fears and phobias such as fear of flying, arachnophobia, fear of needles or examination nerves.

The list though is endless and includes such things as blushing, nail biting, insomnia, eating disorders, obsessions and compulsions, to name but a few. For a more complete list see the last page of this entry.
