About me

About me
Benfleet based Diane Hamilton is a fully qualified and registered Clinical Hypnotherapist who trained at the Essex Institute in Southend on Sea.  The training course is accredited by Birmingham University.  The practice is located within The Spinal and Natural Healthcare Centre in Rushbottom Lane, Benfleet, Essex.

My background
For many years I worked for a large national company, but I did not feel fulfilled, thinking that there must be more to life.  I would visit Mind, Body and Spirit Fayres where I would see many forms of therapy being demonstrated, thinking that helping people like that was a lovely way to earn a living.  I had a particular interest in Hypnotherapy, so when the chance came along to learn, I didn't hesitate.

Since my original training I have added other specialist qualifications, I am a Licensed Practitioner of the WILL-STOP Hypnotic Gastric band therapy.  There are frequently new courses being offered which enable me to keep up-to-date with all the latest techniques.

I enjoy helping with a variety of issues which include: Quit smoking, weight management, exam nerves, driving test nerves, sports performance and many more, too many to list here.

What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy uses the deeply relaxed state of hypnosis to make beneficial changes to your life.  The most common form is Suggestion therapy, a bit like reading a story to you while you are sitting in a comfortable chair.  While in the state of hypnosis you are neither asleep or unconscious, you are fully aware of what's happening.  Everyone experiences hypnosis differently, there is no standard  'hypnotised feeling'.  A daydream or being totally engrossed in a book or TV programme is a form of hypnosis.

Hypnotic Gastric Band
This therapy implants the suggestion in the mind that a Gastric Band has been fitted.  The whole process takes approximately 1 - 1 1/2 hours each session over two sessions, one week apart.  In the first session you will be taken into hypnosis and the suggestion is placed in the mind that you have visited the hospital, met the consultant who will explain the procedure.  During the second session, the suggestion is then implanted that you have actually undergone the operation.

Benefits of the hypnotic gastric band
   No dangerous invasive surgery
   No discomfort or side effects
   No prolonged time off work
   More cost effective

Complications of Gastric Band Surgery
   Air in the chest cavity
   Difficulty swallowing
Making a hole in the stomach or oesophagus
Infection of the band or wound
   Band erosion or leakage

In her lifetime the average woman will spend more than £25000 on diet related products.

Professional memberships
I am a member of APHP (The Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy) which is based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex but has a worldwide membership.

I am also a member of NRPC (The National Register of Psychotherapists and Counsellors) and am registered as a recognised practioner with CNHC.  The Department of Health recommends that you consult one of their registered practioners, as those practioners will have had their qualifications and training rigorously checked.  The CNHC is an organisation that can only be joined at their invitation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at The Essex Institute in Southend on Sea.  I enjoy dealing with a variety of issues.  It is very satisfying to see the change in someone when they have finished their therapy, for example someone who has struggled for years to quit the smoking habit but has not previously been successful, or someone who has tried all the diets going in an attempt to reduce their weight.

I offer a range of therapies too numerous to be listed here.  I am a licenced WILL-STOP virtual Gastric Band practitioner.

As a member of APHP (Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy) I am bound by their code of ethics, for details see www.aphp.co.uk also the National Register of Psychotherapists and Counsellors www.nrpc.co.uk I am also registered with CNHC.  The Department of Health recommends that you consult with someone who is registered with their organisation, as they will have carried out rigorous checks on the qualifications and training of those members who are registered.
I attend workshops and classes for on-going professional training to keep up-to-date with the latest techniques.

As required with all professional therapists, I am fully covered by professional indemnity insurance.

Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

* If you have been diagnosed or suspect you may have one of the medical conditions starred above, you should consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment and always inform your health professional before starting any alternative or additional therapies or treatments.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

I trained to work with infertility (male or female) at Fertility2birth.  Stress can play a part where there is unexplained infertility, by learning some relaxation techniques you could increase your chances of having the baby you desire.  If you are undergoing IVF I will work with you through the various stages.
If you are pregnant, I can help you and your birthing partner with techniques that could give you an easier, more relaxed birthing experience.  I would see mum and birthing partner at 30, 32, and 34 weeks.

Over 90% of cases of high blood pressure have no medical cause, I work alongside your GP/Consultant.  High blood pressure may be caused by stress or some aspects of lifestyle.  We investigate possible causes and work out a treatment plan, further details can be found at www.hypnotension.com

There is currently no cure for either cancer or I.B.S. Hypnotherapy aims to offer palliative care and a positive outlook for clients who have cancer.  Symptoms of I.B.S. may be relieved with the help of hypnotherapy.  Clients will be taught techniques that could help them manage their conditions.
If you would like more details please don't hesitate to contact me.

Fees can be a rather personal subject, and can vary according to the type of therapy that will be used.  These are best discussed in person during the initial consultation.  When we have a clearer understanding of your particular circumstances we can then decide on the best form of therapy that will help you to improve the quality of your life.

I offer a free, no obligation initial consultation.  Please contact me if you would like more information.

Further information

My practice is situated within The Spinal and Natural Healthcare Centre, Rushbottom Lane, Benfleet, which is directly opposite Woodham Ley Primary School.  The clinic is a short walk from bus stops, free parking can be found in surrounding side roads and opposite the clinic.  As my consulting room is situated within the clinic, some of whose patients have trouble walking, it would be appreciated if any visitors for hypnotherapy would not park on the driveway.
