Profile

I help people to regain balance in their lives, helping them overcome fears, phobias, weight issues including gastric band therapy, panic attacks, confidence building, helping people with low self esteem to regain control of their emotions.

For over 15 years I have been treating patients from the northwest of England. I started my career in private healthcare when I studied spinal and muscular care, after developing a lower back injury whilst in my teenage years. I set up my clinic in Swinton, Salford, to help the people of Manchester my home town. I then continued my studies in various fields of complementary therapies, one of the therapies was Hypnotherapy. Now there are many different styles and practices of hypnotherapy, and I have studied various styles and techniques to allow me to help my clients with their problems. The typical conditions and problems that I treat using hypnotherapy range from emotional problems to irrational thinking, examples of conditions addressed are Physical pain, Confidence Boost, Panic Attacks, Sexual Problems, Exam Nerves, Over-Eating, Nightmares, Twitching, Blushing, Tension, Stop Smoking, Emotional Issues, Fears/Phobias to mention a few.

Other approaches to treating conditions using hypnotherapy can be used, such as Past life regression, now this is a therapy that's seems to be overlooked and may not appeal to everyone, but it is an effective way of dealing with relationship, problems, phobias, physical conditions, negative patterns, recurring nightmares to mention a few. This type of therapy is effective yet can seem an unusual approach, it is only used with clients that are open to using it and is never pushed on those who are not interested. The past life regression can also be used out of a therapeutic setting, for those who have a general interest in the subject and wish to have a go. The sessions can be recorded onto a CD if the you wish it to be.

The disciplines I have studied include Hypnotherapy, Massage, Acupuncture, Spinal Manipulation, Cranial Osteomyology, Cupping, Energy Medicine.

After studying and attending continual professional development (CPD) courses, I earned the prestigious award of Osteomyologist of the Year 2009 from the Association of Osteomyology and also received a fellowship.

The typical conditions and problems that I treat at the clinic vary from back / neck pain, sporting injuries to whiplash, and general aches and pains. Also using hypnotherapy, various emotional problems are addressed such as changing habits, smoking, over / under eating, panic attacks, phobias and fears to mention a few.

About Hypnotherapy

Opinions vary on the exact definition of this natural state of mind. First of all, contrary to popular belief hypnosis is NOT a sleep state even though a person in hypnosis may appear to be sleeping. There is no legal definition of hypnosis. We experience hypnosis in our every day living, like when we become engrossed in a novel or a motion picture; we are in a natural hypnotic trance.

All hypnosis is Self-Hypnosis, and the power is in the mind of the person being hypnotised, So in reality the hypnotherapist is more like a guide who facilitates the hypnotic process. It is an altered state of conscious awareness into which you allow yourself to enter, with the guidance of a therapist.

When something new happens to us, we remember it and learn a particular behaviour in response to that circumstance. Memories stored in our brains hold the original physical and emotional reactions that occurred when the given memory was first formed. Each time similar events occur again, the physical and emotional reactions attached to the memory are repeated. These reactions may be inappropriate or unhealthy. During a hypnotherapy session you are guided to remember the event that led to the first reaction, then we separate the memory from the learned behaviour, and reconstruct the event with new, healthier emotions and reactions.

Does a hypnotised person give up control?

Do we give up control of our minds during a film? When is the last time you got so involved during a film or TV show that you actually felt emotion? You were literally in a hypnotic trance, although you still have the power to emerge from the state if desired. You are in control all the time, you always know what is happening, and you can come out of the altered state at any time in the same way one can snap out of a vivid daydream.
A film, TV show, self-hypnosis tape or hypnotherapist may guide your mind, but YOU still have control and the power to resist. Even though there are some people who seem to partially give up control of their minds, that is because of a misunderstanding, certainly one can be tricked into believing that he/she has given up control in some forms of stage hypnosis. ALL HYPNOSIS IS SELF HYPNOSIS!! AND I DO NOT DO STAGE HYPNOSIS, I am a hypnotherapist not a hypnotist, I stress the therapy bit!

Will I reveal all my secrets?

No you will never say or do anything that will go against your principles, beliefs, or values.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Since hypnosis is a natural state of mind, clients are often surprised that they hear every word. Unless one enters a deep state, or at least a medium state, you may not feel any different than when relaxing in your favourite easy chair with a good book. You may feel quite mellow, and may feel light or even weightless, you may even feel heavy as if you were sinking in to the chair. If you enter a very deep state the feeling may be almost euphoric or being slightly intoxicated! (but without the side effects) In a light state it is possible for you to think that you have not been hypnotised at all.

What's involved in a typical hypnotherapy treatment?

A typical treatment would start with a consultation, the consultation will consist of a short form for you to tick the relevant boxes relating to your situation, and then we would discuss the information you have provided. It will be explained to you how hypnosis works and what to expect. Once we have covered all aspects of your problems we will form an approach to your therapy. Treatment involves you relaxing in a comfortable chair and allowing your mind to do what it needs to do to make the changes required. Some of the sessions are recorded and put onto CD for you to take away with you to listen to at home, this is to re-enforce the treatment.
