Hypnotherapy is best defined as a fully conscious deep relaxation similar to day dreaming or waking first thing in the morning, during this time the subconscious part of the mind is often able to find solutions or take on suggestions.

This programme puts the control into your hands and enhances the choices you make about food and exercise. The hypnotic recordings reinforce your progress and allow you to design your own hypnotic suggestions. Incentives to succeed are built into the structure of the programme, because you do not advance to the next step until you are successfully reducing your weight and shedding those excess pounds. Mindfulness has recently become very hip which is great because it is certainly profoundly nurturing and life – transforming for those who undertake it.
Over the last few decades more and more scientific research has been conducted to investigate the effects of mindfulness practice on our brains, minds, emotions, behaviors, functioning and bodies. This research is showing us how mindfulness can effectively help many difficulties such as depression, anxiety, stress, psychosis, body image, attention and memory problems, low self-esteem, work-related stress, psoriasis, acute and chronic pain, and relationship problems. The programme I run is called Mindfulness Now and is a fusion of the key elements from MBSR ( Mind based stress reduction) and MBCT ( Mind based cognitive therapy). In our modern competitive society people are increasingly experiencing too much stress. This is called negative stress and can lead to both mental and physical illness.
Frequently stress is caused by frustration and feelings of being out of control in our life. It is probably true to say that we all have either suffered stress at some point in our life’s or have witnessed it happening to others. Many people find that stress makes them physically ill, tense, anxious and irritable, prone to eat, drink or smoke more. Many sufferers find their stomachs and bowels are upset and eventually this may lead to more serious illness.
Hypnotherapy and mindfulness offer the ability to dissolve the immediate stress felt by the client. The relaxation and deep breathing induced by hypnosis unravel muscular tension and set up what is called the relaxation response.

I believe in using hypnotherapy and Mindfulness to empower clients to find their own answers and make long lasting change. Very much a collaborative process between myself and the client. I also provide clients with self- hypnosis CDs ( normally a recording of one of the sessions) and self help exercises.
I practise a number of hypnotherapy methods- Solution Focussed, Ericksonian, Hypnoanalysis (regression) and Cognitive. (CBT). I aim to use the method most appropriate to by clients personality and issue.
How many sessions
It really depends on the issue. Typically smoking cessation would be two x 1 hour sessions. The Think Thin programme is over twelve weeks. On average a client will normally get long lasting results after five sessions.
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming - which basically means - 'How do we tick and how do we communicate with ourselves and others'. We often have negative programmes running in our heads which often lead to self limiting beliefs about ourselves and what we can or can not do. I help people challenge those beliefs and make big changes in their lives. Generally NLP interventions are done at a rapid pace- faster than the conscious mind can process usually. As a consequence deep level changes are made to our subconscious.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be aware of what's happening while I'm in hypnosis? Yes, in fact, within the hypnotic state we are actually hyper-aware of what is going on around us.
Will I lose control of myself while in hypnosis? Absolutely not! If an idea or suggestion is presented that does not ring true with you in hypnosis, you will reject it in your mind -- sometimes even removing yourself from hypnosis immediately.
Can I be 'trapped' in hypnosis? No, you can not. If you were conducted into the hypnotic state, and then the hypnotist left you alone, you would eventually just emerge on your own from hypnosis, much the same way we emerge from a nap.
Will I be made to do something foolish in hypnosis? It's unlikely that you will find yourself 'clucking like a chicken,' following a hypnotic session. In cases of stage hypnosis, where the hypnotist has given an entertaining suggestion to audience members, they comply because they are willing, just for the fun of it. If the hypnotist invited people onto the stage to help them feel happier, they'd be unlikely to get another booking for the entertainment value!
Can I be hypnotized against my will? Absolutely not! All hypnosis is considered to be self-hypnosis, so you cannot be hypnotized unless you wish to be.
Hypnosis has nothing to do with magic, metaphysics or religion. It is merely the most graceful, powerful and effective tool for accessing our vast internal capability, in order to easily make the positive changes we want to make in our lives.
Who can be hypnotized? It's understood that people who are of average and above intelligence and who haven't any brain damage may be hypnotized. Those who may have difficulty achieving the hypnotic state include people under the influence of heavy narcotics, people who suffer from some psychotic conditions or those who have sustained some form of physical damage to the brain. As far as is known, the only others who may not be hypnotized are those who do not wish to be hypnotized.
