I'm Andy and I have been interested in how and why people change for about ten years now. I work a lot on myself and believe that improves the quality of therapy offered.
The way I work is straightforward and direct, I believe a mix of empathy and challenge can create powerful change within a person. I would also say that I don't believe good therapy only happens in one set way, I'm open to explore any way you find healing or helpful.
After an initial phone call we will arrange a first session in which we will usually talk about what you'd like to get from counselling and whether I'm suitable to work with. The sessions are one hour and people usually attend weekly but the frequency is up to you. Some people only see me for a few weeks whereas others are longer term clients for many months or years. I offer daytime as well as some evening and weekend slots to fit around those working full-time.
I have a number of techniques that can be helpful, working with metaphor using Clean Language for example, and use them should the opportunity arise. My main focus, however, is on connecting with you as a person. I believe this connection is what best facilitates positive growth. I also use a lot of intuition to guide myself during a session.
You can meet me for a short introduction to see if I'm suitable, this is free of charge but would become the first paid session if you stay for the hour. I offer this because I think it's crucial to find a therapist you can work with, and I think you usually know pretty quickly.
I practice from my home in Loughton, Essex (North East London)
Parking is available and I am a few minutes walk from Loughton Underground Station.
"When I come here and talk, because you listen, I'm able to put it back in the right place" - Woman explaining how the process was helpful for her.
"You're better than my last counsellor" - Child in a school who said he didn't like being asked how he felt or how things were going.
"Thankyou, you're very good at this." - Man who saw me for one session, we used Clean Language and he found great relief and internal movement that freed him.
Training, qualifications & experience
I studied Clinical Hypnosis (DipHE). The course provided a practical and scientific grounding in many hypnotic techniques and specialised therapeutic applications.
I studied Philosophy at Nottingham University and apply my learnings from that course in my therapeutic techniques.
I have attended multiple workshops on Parts Therapy and trained with the creator of Clean Language, I find the methods taught in them very effective to facilitate change, acceptance, and growth.
