Profile

Do you want something about your life to change?  Have you noticed that sometimes things that sound so easy in theory prove harder in practice?

I am a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist working in Wimborne, Dorset. I have a special interest in helping clients who are experiencing problems due to depression or anxiety issues, including panic attacks, obsessions/compulsions, insomnia and phobias.

Prior to training as a hypnotherapist I enjoyed a career as a microbiologist, working within the NHS and food industry, and later worked in financial administration and Clinical Audit (again within the NHS).  I first became interested in hypnotherapy when one of my colleagues used it to overcame his debilitating fear of spiders, and my interest grew when I discovered its potential to help with clinical issues like Irritable Bowel Syndrome and depression.

I trained at Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training in Bristol (CPHT) and was awarded the nationally accredited Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma in 2007. I have also undertaken courses in CBT Skills for Hypnotherapists, and Solution Focused Techniques for Hypnotherapists, also at CPHT (Bristol).

I now live and work in Dorset, using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques when appropriate) to help my clients overcome a range of issues and make improvements in their lives.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnosis. Psychotherapy involves talking together to help clients overcome their difficulties and is in itself extremely beneficial. Hypnosis enhances the effects of talking therapies by enabling all levels of the mind to experience new thoughts and beliefs, and choose to make beneficial changes.

There are many different kinds of Psychotherapy (talking treatments), all of which aim to help people overcome stress or emotional problems. The main psychotherapeutic technique that I use is Solution Focused Therapy. Solution focused therapy is designed to reduce anxiety and calm the mind. As the name suggests it focuses on solutions for the future, rather than analysing problems of the past. If you are willing to make changes to the way you think, the therapy can be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of anxiety and stress. When appropriate I also use some aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Focusing on solutions means we do not dwell on problems. Instead we acknowledge where you are currently (we may use selected CBT techniques to help clarify this), then identify where you want to be and help you to make the necessary changes to get you there.
