I have been using a combination of solution focused hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy techniques to help my clients since 2007. I have a special interest in helping people who are experiencing problems due to depression or anxiety issues, including panic attacks, obsessions/compulsions, insomnia, and phobias. I also enjoy helping people to learn how to relax deeply and to control stress and anxiety, which is especially helpful for people who have conditions that seem to be worse at times of stress and anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome and some skin conditions for example.
I am also a highly trained scientist. Prior to devoting my time to hypnotherapy I worked as a microbiologist in the NHS and the food industry, and later as a Clinical Audit professional within the NHS. The focus of Clinical Audit is to ensure patients are treated using the most appropriate techniques (known as evidence based best practice). This is something I am keen to translate to my own practice.
I trained at Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training in Bristol (CPHT) and was awarded the nationally accredited Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma in 2007. I have also successfully completed courses in CBT Skills for Hypnotherapists, and Solution Focused Techniques for Hypnotherapists, also at CPHT (Bristol), and an Advanced Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy at the Anglo European College of Therapeutic Hypnosis.
I now live and work in Dorset, using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques when appropriate) to help my clients overcome a range of issues and make improvements in their lives.
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnosis. Psychotherapy involves talking together to help clients overcome their difficulties and is in itself extremely beneficial. Hypnosis enhances the effects of talking therapies by enabling all levels of the mind to experience new thoughts and beliefs, and choose to make beneficial changes. Solution focused hypnotherapy combines hypnosis with the techniques of solution focused brief therapy.
As the name suggests it focuses on solutions for the future, rather than analysing problems of the past, and it can be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of anxiety and stress. When appropriate I also incorporate some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques and simple relaxation techniques.
Focusing on solutions means we don't need to dwell on your problems or rummage about in your memories to identify the events that might have caused you to experience things in unhelpful ways. Instead we acknowledge where you are now, identify where you want to be (and how you'll know when you've got there) then help you to make the necessary changes to get you there. This approach is particularly beneficial for people who are experiencing excess anxiety, stress or inappropriate fears (eg exam/test/interview nerves), though easily adapts to relieve phobias and remove bad habits (or encourage development of new, good habits).

In addition to these qualifications I am committed to maintaining and updating my skills. I have also attended training in the impact of hypnosis on pain and disease, the use of hypnotherapy to support people living with dementia, the use of hypnotherapy to aid management of hypertension and understanding post traumatic stress disorder and psychological trauma.

- Initial consultation, (lasting between 30 and 90 minutes) £50 (though there will be no charge if you decide not to proceed with therapy within the first 30 minutes).
- Subsequent appointments, lasting up to 60 minutes £50.
