Many clients come to seek help with: stage fright, public speaking, exam nerves, passing driving tests, recall of information or forgetting information connected to negative emotional reactions!
The common factor amongst all these symptoms is the way a person ‘freezes’ and apparently loses the ability to think clearly. Simplistically speaking, when we tell the brain to react in a fight or flight mode, all elements of body and mind that are not needed to run away from the danger, go on hold, so to speak.
Mother Nature designed us well in this regard; perhaps too well. It only takes a sensitive child, a frightening experience or two and there are the beginnings of patterns that can last a lifetime. What’s more, like a snowball, we accumulate to our fears more and more totally unrelated events as life goes on.
This can continue until we choose to change. We can retrain the emotional brain to remain calm and secure in situations where we learnt to behave as alarmists.
A fantastic outcome of taking this step is the increased potential for speeded-up learning. No longer using energy to maintain your fears, you have released it to fulfil your abilities.
Now that feels good!
