Weight gain is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes is very closely associated with weight, with a very high percentage of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics being above their ideal weight. Being overweight can put your health at risk and negatively affect your confidence. Getting back to a healthy weight can seem like a never-ending challenge. However, losing the excess weight could prevent you from developing diabetes or help you to better manage your disease if you have already been diagnosed.
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin to maintain a normal blood glucose level, or the body is unable to use the insulin that is produced. This is also known as insulin resistance.
The pancreas, which is a large gland behind the stomach produces the hormone insulin. The pancreas moves glucose from your blood into your cells, where it's converted into energy. One of the reasons why the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin in type 2 diabetes is being overweight or obese.
Carrying fat around your tummy increases your risk. This is because it releases chemicals that can upset the body's cardiovascular and metabolic systems. This increases your risk of developing a number of serious conditions, including coronary heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer.
Pre-diabetes can progress to type 2 diabetes if you don't take preventative steps, such as changing your food habits and making lifestyle changes.
Getting into the right frame of mind to lose weight can be half the battle for some people. Get your head in good shape and allow your body to follow. Maintaining a healthy weight should be a long-term goal and not a short-term obsession.
It is highly likely there are underlying psychological and/or emotional causes for overeating, over indulging, binge eating and eating in secret.
During hypnosis you tend to be more receptive, which gives your hypnotherapist the opportunity to access sections of the unconscious you might usually suppress. Your hypnotherapist will explore your overall relationship with eating, identifying the patterns in your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
Your hypnotherapist will then aim to offset these patterns by breaking the bond between emotion and eating and breaking your dependence on certain food types. Hypnotherapy will also inject motivation and a sense of well-being into your life. It can help you make appropriate health choices and carry out appropriate amounts of exercise, meaning moving your body more and not suffering at the gym everyday!
Changing your eating habits to lose weight can also be supported with the use of gastric band hypnotherapy. The procedure aims to convince your mind that you have had a gastric band fitted which is a safe, risk free and cost effective alternative to traditional gastric band surgery.
If you're overweight, have type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure, a balanced diet, regular physical activity and living a healthy lifestyle can help to lower your blood sugar, improve your health and help you feel better.
