Weight Before You Book?
Whilst writing this piece, much of the country is being battered by high winds and blizzards but, it is March and the spring really is just around the corner……I promise!
It’s at this time of the year that many people start to think of their summer break. A few weeks in the sunshine to relax, to feel better, to recharge the batteries and replenish natural reserves..... which will then help them through another hard long dark winter!
Taking advantage of the benefits of such a vacation would allow, yet for some people, the thought of removing the security of their everyday clothing and exposing their bodies in swimwear to the sunshine, and anyone who cares to glance in their direction, can be daunting or even unimaginable.
We live in an age when weight loss, body image issues and obesity are recurring topics of conversation and media articles. Hardly a day goes by without television, radio, newspapers and the internet reminding us of how unhealthy we are as a society and how much of a burden obesity is on the NHS.
Yet for many, medical conditions do not play a part in the accumulation of unwanted weight or fatty tissue. Lifestyle choices are responsible and addiction to food and drink is common. The reasons are numerous, some can be traced back to childhood or pubescence, others relate to comfort or inappropriate coping strategies but we do know that hypnotherapy offers a patient the chance to address whatever the issue may be and then to assist that person to regain control, change their lifestyle and lose weight safely and appropriately.
The maths is quite straight forward. Put less in and exercise more away. The net result is a reduction in dress size or waist measurement but sadly the implementation of changes needed to achieve the required outcome is not always as simple as the arithmetic. Hypnotherapy is like the abacus of weight loss. It helps one to rationalise, analyse, to stand back from unwanted emotions or cravings and then change the way we think about what we eat and drink, how we look at appropriate exercise and then adopt a healthier regime which, in time, will allow us to achieve the body image we desire.
Hypnotherapy can now even allow our unconscious minds to accept that the body has undergone gastric band surgery, assisting weight loss without the need for the patient actually to go through any painful and inconvenient intervention or to visit a hospital!
This relatively new approach is fascinating and very exciting. For some it has brought success, ending years of frustration and endless yo-yo dieting.
If you have noticed your Speedos, thong and flip-flops winking at you lately from the corner of your wardrobe and then have shuddered at the thought of packing them in your suitcase, it might be time for you to do something about those extra pounds you really don’t want to take on holiday with you.
