The Olympic Games Bring More Than Just Sport Into Our Lives
Many of us have very definite views on sport; we may love it or hate it, but few of us are neutral where sport is concerned. The fact is though that the Olympic Games bring more than just sport into our lives. Let us use sport and particularly the Olympic Games as a metaphor for life and see what it can bring into our lives.
- The importance of trying, of having a go, is a valuable message from the Olympic Games. Many of us respect and appreciate the courage and discipline that it takes to attempt such arduous challenges, and occasionally we've cheered when we've seen the underdog succeed in unexpected ways. Having a go, taking part, committing fully to achieving our very best whilst having no regrets demonstrates that the Olympic Games bring more than just sport into our lives.
Hypnotherapy can support that commitment to a positive mindset, to staying on track and not losing faith. Self-hypnosis techniques allow us to clear away external distractions, negative thoughts and self talk whilst remaining positive, focused and upbeat.
- All sports, even individual events, require that a group pf people have to work together for the overall benefit of the athlete. Masseurs, nutritionists, trainers, sports psychologists all have to liaise and co-ordinate their suggestions, diaries and regimes to support their client's training plan.
Many athletes retain the services of a hypnotherapist as part of their crew, to keep them focused on their ultimate goal, to support healing and to manage stress and keep them with a positive mindset. Being aware of the role that a supportive, cohesive team effort can play in our eventual success is an important lesson from the Olympic Games.
- Being a gracious loser is an important life lesson, reinforced especially during the Olympic Games. Taking part, doing our best whilst acknowledging that there can be only one winner is a tough realisation in many contests and competitions. Some people may prefer not to take that risk and decide to walk away from the potential for disappointment.
Others rise to the challenge and treat failure as a temporary setback, a way of being motivated to find other options that will lead to success. A hypnotherapist can help in dealing with setbacks, help resolve any underlying issues there may be and support a healthier and more positive outlook for the future.
This last year or two has highlighted a more patriotic, national pride for many British people. The Royal Wedding, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and now the Olympic Games have brought about a strong sense of British pride for many of us, a united sense of belonging to a Nation and to a people. And that is something else that the Olympic Games have brought into many of our lives.
