Anxiety can be completely overwhelming, uneasy and fear inducing - both emotionally and physically. When we feel anxious, our heart rate, blood pressure and respiratory rate increases and this can lead to panic attacks. But do you know these physical responses are the same as when we run into a potentially dangerous situation like running into a lion or tiger in the street for example!
When in' flight or fight' mode we are in the primitive part of our brain, which we need for self preservation - so when we run into that lion or tiger, our vital signs increase and we release adrenaline and cortisol which is great for getting us out of that potentially life-threatening situation.
However, we cannot successfully go about our day to day business constantly in 'fight or flight' mode. This is exhausting and can lead to sleep disruptions, nausea, headaches, sweating, irregular heartbeat, a busy mind, constant negative thinking and lack of concentration.
There are lots of things that contribute to anxiety - constant negative thinking, stress, pressure at home or work, money problems, exhaustion.
The good news is, there are lots of essential things that can help decrease anxiety - you can spend minutes doing some of these to decrease your adrenaline and cortisol levels:
- talking to someone you love and trust
- breathing exercises
- listening to music
- physical exercise
- focusing on the positives
- reassuring thoughts
- eating a healthy diet.
By doing the activities above, we increase our feel-good hormones and neurotransmitters: serotonin, oxytocin and dopamine so that we decrease our adrenaline and cortisol levels thus decreasing our anxiety.
The good news is, hypnotherapy is extremely useful in reducing anxiety. Hypnotherapy can help you decrease the amount of time you spend in your primitive brain and also encourage positivity, working towards goals and increasing confidence as you go along. One of the best things in a hypnotherapists' toolbox is the ability to guide someone into a deep relaxed state and get them to imagine their preferred future - yes, one free from anxiety!
The brain does not understand the difference between imagination and reality, so during hypnosis (which is an entirely natural state) we can work together to eradicate negative and unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours.
When you are calm and relaxed, you can gain perspective over things that have previously caused you anxiety - seeing clearly and able to move forward without dwelling on the past.
So if you would like to experience the freedom from anxiety that hypnotherapy can offer you, give it a go!
