Most people haven’t heard of CVS as it is fairly rare, but it has been recognised for over 100 years. There is unfortunately still very little known about the causes of this condition and there is as yet no test that can confirm it, and individuals are only diagnosed with CVS through their symptoms and the exclusion of other conditions. It affects children and adults alike and there is no known cure.
Individuals usually identify triggers that bring on an attack and this can differ between sufferers, but most common being infections and heightened emotion. The condition is accompanied with general malaise and nausea. The sufferer usually has recurrent episodes of vomiting which can last hours or days and this can be severe; every 10 to 15 minutes between vomiting. The average attack can last 24 hours, but it can last for days. Between attacks the sufferer can be well. Children with CVS frequently suffer migraines and stomach aches and may go onto develop migraine as adults.
It is possible that hypnotherapy can ease or even cure CVS with approximately four sessions. The sessions of hypnotherapy concentrate on confidence, dealing with unwanted anxieties and gaining control of their anxiety, it is also necessary to show the client that they are able to tell their body what to do and this can include self healing visualisation and the calming of the stomach. Research has shown that hypnotherapy can help clients learn how to influence the workings of their body and hypnotherapy for IBS, which is widely used in the NHS and private sector, because of it’s excellent positive effect on IBS. Hypnotherapy for IBS is a perfect example of how our body and mind are inextricably linked. Back in the 70s hypnotherapy was even used in the NHS for the cure of warts and showed how the mind can actually influence the immune system through visualisation in trance. Our minds are amazing and we can indeed, in some cases, learn to cure ourselves or ease some ailments with the power of our subconscious minds.
