Can hypnotherapy really help IBS?

Yes it can!

Our digestive system is intrinsically linked to our nervous system. It is a very well-known fact that fear can make us want to empty our bowels. So, if our bowels are behaving irrationally it could very well be that our emotions are at the root of it.

Many people have extensive medical investigations into this problem with no physical cause being found. If that is the case for you, it is very likely that hypnosis will be of great help.

The sub-conscious mind is just that… sub conscious. It cannot be located by the conscious mind.

Using hypnotherapy can help you access the underlying, unrealised causes of your IBS quickly and effectively.

However that is not the end of the story. A cycle of fear has been set up so that situations where you would once needed the toilet now make you fearful and then, obviously, that fear creates the need for the toilet. So now we are dealing with a known fear which can be calmed by teaching you simple self-hypnotic techniques that re-programme your mind/body connection.

Unfortunately there is little solid research in this area to positively say that this is an effective treatment. However, if you check out the NHS website it says that small studies show remarkable improvements for IBS sufferers.
