This short note below is extracted from a GHR bulletin Sept 1st 2017:
"Practitioners need to be aware of the forthcoming European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (see https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/data-protection-reform/overview-of-the-gdpr/). The GDPR will apply in the UK from 25 May 2018 and the Government has confirmed that the UK's decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of this regulation.
If you are currently subject to the Data Protection Act (DPA) - and virtually all GHR practitioners and training providers will be so subject - then it is likely that you will also be subject to the GDPR.
Like the DPA, the GDPR essentially applies to 'personal data'. However, the GDPR's definition of what constitutes personal data is more detailed and can include, for example, information such as a name, a photo, an email address, bank details, posts on social networking websites, medical information, or a computer IP address etc. For most individuals, keeping client lists or contact/personal details etc, the change to the definition should make little practical difference and you can assume that if you hold information that falls within the scope of the DPA, it will also fall within the scope of the GDPR" (end of extract)
On 25th May 2018 the DPA (Data Protection Act) act becomes a legal requirement
There are reams of reading material out in space but if you are like me you'll get bored quickly if you have to read thousands of informative yet boring words.
I have invited a specialist on the subject to come and talk us gently through this minefield. Some of you know this person as she is also a highly respected fellow hypnotherapist as well as a specialist on this subject. Please do not underestimate how important this new DPA act is to you.
This supervision event is run by a GHR accredited training provider and acknowledged supervisor. Included is a FREE two hour session (10am until noon) on DPA.
The day is eligible to register for six CPD hours.
The free morning event (10am-12noon) is only available to those attending supervision. 1.00pm until 4.00pm, places are very limited due to our venue room capacity.
There's no need to attend an expensive course - here you can obtain knowledge free.
Prepare your questions in advance.
Newly qualified hypnotherapists are required to attend four supervision sessions or peer support events annually during their first two years of practice and my supervision events are an excellent way to further build your confidence, skills and meet with fellow hypnotherapists building a network of contacts.
These Supervision event exceeds the criteria of the General Hypnotherapy Register. Attendance confirmation and receipts are issued by email for the events.
These supervision days are open to any qualified hypnotherapists and as well as sharing information and ideas, you can receive advice and support on all things hypnotic!
Requests to present on a topic this must be agreed and content approved with me (John Dewar) prior to the event date.
