The story begins after George’s (Colin Firth) brother abdicates the throne, paving the way for him to reluctantly assume the position in his brothers place. However, plagued by a severe stammer, George is deemed to be an unfit king by many and so enlists the help of speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), whose unorthodox techniques and unusual methods help the pair to overcome Georges speech impediment.

Though experts are unsure as to what causes speech impediments such as stuttering and stammering, many have suggested that it could be related to sufferers having difficulty co-ordinating the muscles which are needed for speech.

Others have suggested it is genetics and environmental factors which cause the problem combined with a variety of psychological aspects such as anxiety.

If you are suffering with a speech impediment then hypnotherapy may be an option worth considering.

Hypnotherapy has long since been used as a treatment for anxiety and can help a sufferer to undo any negative thoughts which are fuelling the problem.

Speaking in front of large groups can be a daunting experience. However, if you want to progress in your career it’s essential that you overcome this fear. Here are some useful tips.

Using visual aids will help take the pressure and focus from you and will shift it over to things like charts and video presentations. This will help you to feel less anxious.

As with anything its important to be well prepared. Make sure you research the topic thoroughly and rehearse things you are going to say before hand. You should also try to get enough rest before the day of your speech so that you are alert and focused.

Relaxation techniques could help to remove nervousness, try deep breathing, meditation and stretching. If none of this helps you feel relaxed then do something you know works for you. That could just be listening to music or drinking a glass of water.

For those who have a very serious issue with public speaking and feel extreme nervousness, dizziness, nausea and sweating, hypnotherapy should be considered as an option. Often in these extreme cases, nervousness has been translated into fear and this is what the hypnotherapist will work to remove.

Getting over your nervousness is the key to effective public speaking. If you don’t learn how to manage your anxiety then no matter how well prepared you are it’s going to be difficult to speak in front of people without reverting to your old tongue tied self.

Hypnotherapy provides quick results and usually involves hypnotism performed by a qualified individual. Depending on your problems with public speaking, hypnotherapy can rid you of your fears after one to five sessions
