Experts claim that sex addiction is on the rise across the pond, with more than 9 million Americans currently suffering from the condition- that’s a staggering 5% of the US population.

Just like drug addicts and alcoholics, sex addicts are driven by habitual compulsions that subconsciously distract from deeper troubles. Instead of drugs and alcohol, however; sex addicts crave sexual encounters or pornography.

Robert Weiss, of the Sexual Recovery Institute in LA, explained that sexual addiction is about “chasing that emotional high: losing yourself in image after image, prostitute after prostitute, affair after affair”.

People suffering with the disorder can end up catching diseases, losing jobs and ruining friendships and relationships.

Not long ago, sex addicts were mostly older men between the ages of 50 and 60. Today, more and more young people, very elderly people and females are admitting to their problems.

According to Newsweek, who conducted the investigation, the rise in sexual addiction can be attributed to the liberation of online pornography and the disintegrating taboos that once lent structure and discipline to our innate desires.

40 million Americans log in to 4.2 million pornographic websites every day, suggesting that ease of accessibility only adds weight to the problem. Technologies such as Skype and Facebook make it far easier to conduct extramarital affairs across the internet, and could go some way to explaining the new phenomenon.

It is unclear whether ‘sex addiction’ itself is on the rise, or if we have simply attributed a pejorative label to a natural occurrence.

If you are suffering from an addiction of any kind, you may be able to treat it with hypnotherapy. To find a hypnotherapist, please use the search tool on our home page.

Testosterone is the hormone found within males, which is responsible for body shape, loss of hair and the male sex drive. Studies carried out on 624 males from the Philippines, using the testing of blood, showed that levels of testosterone seemed to decline within a 5 year period, in those males who had children.

The study also looked at men who were responsible for up to 3 hours of childcare per day, and found that they produced even less testosterone. Anthropologist Lee Gettler spoke about this trend, saying that men who had high levels of testosterone were more likely to become fathers in the first place. As a consequence of having children though, these levels were likely to drop. There was no information on whether this level dropped more, when the male fathered more than one child.

Andrologist Allan Pacey suggested that these lower levels may be down to the fact that men with children are more likely to be family oriented and less likely to be unfaithful, so it may just be the case of evolution doing what it should. Although, he did stress that tests on behaviour would need to be undertaken before this could be confirmed for definite, as this would more than likely not be the case for all males.

According to the Information Standard, which is a government backed scheme, 8 out of 10 young people are using the internet as a source of obtaining information on sexual health, without having any concept as to whether the websites are reliable. The survey looked at information from 1,200 18-24 year olds. It also found that 2 out of 3 of those surveyed had never had a sexual health screening.

Experts on sexual health state that it is essential for young people to use the appropriate official sites to gain advice, such as the NHS, local authorities and charities. Many of those surveyed gave reasons such as lack of awareness and embarrassment as to why they accessed other websites in favour of visiting the doctor or looking at official websites.

The number of sexually transmitted diseases in young people is currently at a very high level. In 2010, this age group made up more than half of the new diagnoses in England. In order for this figure to drop, there has to be an increase in awareness and education on sexual health. Young people need to become more aware that many websites have inaccurate information, which can lead to the wrong diagnoses. If young people are not educated on sexual health, this figure will only increase over the next 10 years.

The menopause is a consequence of the female reproductive system that 85% – 90% of women are likely to experience. Those in the other five percent happen to be extremely lucky as they are narrowly missing the troublesome symptoms with which the menopause comes hand in hand.

Hot flushes, sweats, sleeplessness, headaches and moodiness are to name but a few of the side effects and though Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a route that many women take to reduce symptoms, hypnotherapy is a far more natural option that should be considered.

Hypnotherapy operates on both a conscious and unconscious level so is an excellent tool for providing beneficial mind, body treatment. Some common examples of symptoms which see an improvement using hypnotherapy include hot flushers, shivers, sweats, loss of libido, sleeplessness, dry skin, joint pain, headaches, mood swings, weight and muscle pain.

A study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine has found that premature ejaculation could be routed in genetics and that men who suffer with the condition are more likely to have atypical genetics.

The research showed that brain neurotransmitter dopamine could determine ejaculation and men with certain genetic differences could have varied levels of the chemical therefor affecting ejaculation.

In contrast to this, NHS Choices have said that although dopamine levels could indeed have an effect, it is mental issues and psychological reasons that are more likely to fuel the problem and they say more research is needed to establish the dopamine link.

It is understandable that this condition may cause embarrassment for men and for this reason they may feel uncomfortable seeking help from a professional. However, rather than suffering alone with the issue health professionals are encouraging men into overcome any anxiety they have which could be causing the problem by seeking the help of a clinical hypnotherapist of psychotherapist.

Hypnotherapy to reduce anxiety works by helping the patient to access the subconscious mind in order to change any negative thoughts to positive ones. This could be a long term and effective solution for any men suffering with this issue.

A man can experience impotence at almost any stage of his life because it can be influenced by a number of different factors. Psychological aspects that could cause this problem could be anything from anxiety, stress and boredom to remembering previous impotence , worrying about pregnancy or using a condom.

Not only that but this problem can also be caused by physical aspects of your life such as smoking, obesity, heavy use of drugs and alcohol or lack of hormones.

If this is something you have already spoken to your doctor about but to no avail then the next step is to talk to a professional therapist. Understand that there can be many psychological causes to impotence that a professional therapist may be able to help you to overcome. If you feel uncomfortable talking to someone about your sex life then try to remember that therapists deal with this sort of thing all the time.

Hypnotherapy can help a great deal with impotence because it can help to undo and resolve any psychological conflict and underlying issues which may be caused the problem. It works in a similar way to hypnotherapy for anxiety and fear by talking to your subconscious whilst you are deeply relaxed and removing any negative associations from the past as well as asking your subconscious to act in a different way when put in a sexual situation.

If you are suffering with this problem and would like to contact ether a counsellor or a hypnotherapist then please visit the Counselling Directory homepage or the Hypnotherapy Directory respectively to contact a professional in your area.

Menopause is a transition that every woman will have to endure, often accompanied by a variety of varying uncomfortable symptoms. With 1,600,000 entering this conversion every year, is it any wonder that people are looking into ways of making it more bearable and comfortable?

Often if a woman is finding the experience uncomfortable their GP will prescribe them hormonal treatment, however this can often cause unwanted side effects. Hypnosis on the other hand, is side effect free and can be very effective in reducing menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. It also may help reduce anxiety, which in turn will improve your sleep patterns. The way hypnotherapy works is by sending messages to our subconscious whilst we are in a deeply relaxed state, meaning that our perception of an experience can be reprogrammed to react in a different way.

Woman undergoing hypnotherapy sessions for menopause will notice certain changes such as an increase in focus, responsiveness and also much more openness and less critical and disbelieving. The purpose of hypnosis for managing menopause is to help the client manage specific symptoms, emotions and physical well being, helping women make this transition feeling healthy in mind, body, spirit and emotions.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) causes women to ovulate irregularly and this among other things is why millions of pounds are spent each year to overcome infertility. Whilst modern medicine has come on leaps and bounds, huge amounts of money and emotion are spent in hope of pregnancies that often never happen.

Hypnotherapy can be a powerful fertility aid. The pent up stress and frustration you may feel from not falling pregnant is probably hindering the process even more by making your body a hostile environment. Hypnotherapy is something that will help reduce stress levels and will in turn create a more positive environment by removing any unconscious barriers you might have during the pregnancy.

Much like visualisation of a gastric brand during weight loss hypnotherapy, visualisation could be beneficial to the production of eggs and the healing of cysts. It is also important to take into account your diet and eating habits as a poor diet and being overweight can contribute and exacerbate a number of infertility problems.

It is not only women who can benefit from fertility hypnotherapy but also men, after all it takes two! It can also be used alone or alongside other fertility treatments and medical procedures with impressive results.

Hypnotherapy is one of the safest methods to help you with your sexual problems. This could be any number of things ranging from performance anxiety, erectile dysfunction, orgasmic dysfunction and low sex drive right through to frigidity. The first thing a hypnotherapist will do is uncover the hidden meaning behind your sexual problem and establish whether the problem you have is physical or psychological.

Sexual issues are more often than not related to the subconscious and they are usually triggered by an incident. Whilst undergoing hypnotherapy you will be asked questions about how and why the problems started and how you felt when they happened. Often these sexual problems are related to anxiety and commitment phobia and hypnotherapy can help you overcome these problems.

For those whose problems stem from low self image, anxiety and low confidence, hypnotherapy can work towards removing these long harboured thoughts. Auto suggestion and positive reinforcements will eliminate those negative thoughts instead of simply covering them up and will improve your self image and self worth.

A recent report featured on In2town has suggested that hypnotherapy can help those who suffer with premature ejaculation.

Premature ejaculation is when a man ejaculates rapidly and usually without giving satisfaction to their partner during sex. There are many reasons why this may occur. The man may not have control over the feeling or it could be a simple case of enjoying the moment to such an extent, ejaculation is faster in the process.

This common problem among men can have a detrimental effect on relationships because the man can’t return the sexual pleasure to his partner.

There are certain medications and creams already on the market which are designed to stop premature ejaculation. However, unfortunately they often have to be taken or applied up to half-an-hour to one hour prior to sexual activity which is inconvenient for obvious reasons.

Alternatively, hypnotherapy offers a solution to the problem with no side effects and a high success rate. The aim of the hypnotherapy is that it helps you get over the rush. It can help you become calmer, and can replace the need to hurry with a need to relax. If you really don’t feel comfortable discussing your sex life with a therapist then there are a number of hypnotherapy MP3’s available for download on certain websites.
