The news that the Duchess of Cambridge is undergoing hypnotherapy sessions was confirmed yesterday by the pregnant Duchess’s friend Jessica Hay.
31-year-old Kate, who is expecting her first child in July, has been diagnosed with Hyperemisis Gravidarum (acute morning sickness). This occasionally serious condition causes the body to react violently to the intake of food and liquid.
“She finds it very hard to eat a full meal and gets full very quickly. The hypnotherapy is taking away any negative thoughts connected with food from the morning sickness, and replacing them with cravings for healthy, nutritious food,” Miss Hay explained.
According to Hay, the Duchess is also on a special diet to combat her sickness, which includes filling, nutritious foods such as oatmeal, broccoli, berries and avocados.
As well as the hypnotherapy and nutrition plan, Kate is said to have taken up Pilates three times a week to keep fit and flexible during her pregnancy.
Despite the severe sickness, friends report that Kate is very happy with her family around her. After such a traumatic start to the pregnancy, she and her husband Prince William can finally start to enjoy their experience as parents-to-be.
Hypnotherapy helps treat morning sickness by altering thought patterns through a combination of relaxation and gentle suggestion. With the body reacting so badly to food, it is easy for pregnant women to form negative associations and build a bad relationship with food.
