Dieting equals irritability and anger
According to a recent study, the act of dieting can make individuals feel both irritable and angry.
The study, which was published in the Journal of Consumer Research, found that individuals who chose an apple instead of a chocolate bar were more likely to opt for films with anger and revenge as themes as opposed to milder movies.
It was also found that individuals who chose a gift voucher for supermarket shopping instead of a voucher for a spa service showed more interest in angry faces than in fearful ones.
Further findings included that participants who chose a healthy snack instead a less healthier but tastier treat, were more irritated by a marketing message, which they felt came across as dictatorial.
Study authors David Gal and Wendy Liu said they had set out to examine whether a high level of self-control resulted in higher levels of angry behaviour than in those with less self-control.
The result of the study made it clear that individuals who exerted self-control did behave more aggressively towards one another, as did those who were on diets.
