Most dieters gain weight again after six months

Most dieters gain weight again after six monthsAs the popular ITV show ‘Biggest Loser’ has come to an end and the winner walks away with his £25,0000 prize money, one obesity expert speaks out and says the shows producers should have withheld the money for six months.

29 year old Wil Graham has recently been crowned Britain’s Biggest Loser for managing to shed over a third of his body weight (dropping from 24stone 7Ibs to 16st) on ITV’s new diet show.

Though this is fantastic news for Graham, obesity experts are concerned the show is sending out the wrong messages to dieters who may not realise that loosing the weight is only half the battle and keeping it off is another matter entirely.

Tam Fry from the National Obesity Forum believes that the prize money should have been withheld for six months to a year to show that he is actually managing to keep the weight off.

“It’s one thing taking off a lot of weight to get a lot of money; if what you then do is to immediately put it all back on again, you’ve profited by false pretences,” Said Fry.

A recent 2010 study of 105 dieters who had successfully lost weight after being obese or overweight, found that six months after reaching their target weight only half of them had managed to keep the weight off.
