Former drug addict turned celebrity hypnotherapist
51 year old hypnotherapist Max Kirsten is a reformed drug addict who now dedicates himself to helping others overcome their own addictions using hypnosis.
Though Kirsten is now based in the Knightsbridge area of London, he spent his youth growing up on King’s Road, where ‘getting high’ on any and every drug was the done thing.
After various stints in rehab, Kirsten finally managed to kick his drug habit, though he still struggled to curb his 40-a-day cigarette addiction.
In an attempt to get totally clean and live a healthier lifestyle, Kirsten sought the help of hypnotherapy, which was such a success that he retrained as a hypnotherapist himself and now specialises in smoking cessation.
“People had told me to look into hypnosis. To my amazement, I discovered I became more relaxed in a trance state.”
Kirsten’s hypnotherapy method is now such a success that celebrity Ewan McGregor is even endorsing the quit smoking iPhone app and David Cameron is rumoured to have turned to the reformed addict in a bid to overcome his nicotine addiction.
” I understand smokers, I’ve smoked in the cold and rain, I’ve smoked through flu, I’ve had those blind panics when you run out of cigarettes late at night”, he said.
Kirsten explains that he doesn’t attempt to get his patients to do anything they don’t want to do, but instead puts them into a light trance which takes them through a ‘mental rehearsal’ of their everyday life, minus the cigarettes.
