Ambulances get an overhaul to cater for obese patients
Ambulances across the country are being kitted out with new equipment which will help paramedics to cope with the increasing number of overweight patients.

Standard ambulances are now being stocked with specialist equipment such as heavy-duty stretchers costing between £7,000 and £10,000 and lifting cushions costing up to £2,500. In addition, reinforcing an ambulance tail-lift comes at the expense of £800 per vehicle and ”bariatric” ambulances which can carry the most obese can cost up to £90,000.
The double-width trolley stretchers are capable of accommodating patients weighing up to 50 stone and are just one of many adjustments which are being made to many ambulances which will help the emergency services respond to any form of life-threatening situation.
Director of the Ambulance Service Network, Jo Webber, has said that ambulance bosses have now been left with no option.
“Every service is having to invest money in this. It shows that some of the lifestyle changes we are seeing have a range of costs. It is not just about treating them, but the infrastructure costs as well.”
If you are concerned about your weight and have had no success in your own endeavours to lead a healthier lifestyle then an option worth considering is that of hypnotherapy. We all know what we need to do in order to loose weight and be healthy, but actually doing it is an entirely different matter and failure is often down to lack of willpower. The various techniques used in hypnotherapy can help individuals to identify the underlying cause of their attitude towards food before creating different attitudes which will allow new eating habits to be developed.
