Hypnotherapy for stammering
Last week saw the release of the much anticipated Oscar tipped The Kings Speech, which tells the story of King George VI and his struggle to overcome his stammer and lead the country to war.
The story begins after George’s (Colin Firth) brother abdicates the throne, paving the way for him to reluctantly assume the position in his brothers place. However, plagued by a severe stammer, George is deemed to be an unfit king by many and so enlists the help of speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), whose unorthodox techniques and unusual methods help the pair to overcome Georges speech impediment.
Though experts are unsure as to what causes speech impediments such as stuttering and stammering, many have suggested that it could be related to sufferers having difficulty co-ordinating the muscles which are needed for speech.
Others have suggested it is genetics and environmental factors which cause the problem combined with a variety of psychological aspects such as anxiety.
If you are suffering with a speech impediment then hypnotherapy may be an option worth considering.
Hypnotherapy has long since been used as a treatment for anxiety and can help a sufferer to undo any negative thoughts which are fuelling the problem.
