One in ten adults in danger from obesity

As it stands around one in ten adults are now so obese that their GP considers their weight to be a serious threat to their health.

There are currently over 5.5million over 16s on the official obesity register which is held by GPs, a figure which has risen a quarter in the past year alone. In addition to this there are around 2.8 million people being treated for Type 2 diabetes, a disease which has strong links to unhealthy lifestyles.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that according to Body Mass Index calculations a quarter of the population are now obese (though the fact that heavily muscled individuals such as athletes will be included in this figure must be considered).
