Breast cancer risks increase with weight gain
Research conducted by the American Cancer society has revealed that the amount of weight a women gains after the age of 18 is a strong indicator of whether she will contract breast cancer later on in life.
We have already known for many years that weight gain and body mass are contributing factors in increasing breast cancer risk and The Cancer Society has now estimated that between one-third and one-half of all breast cancer deaths among mature women can be contributed to weight.
The reason weight gain causes this to happen is through our fat tissue, which creates estrogen, which fuels cancer growth. Senior epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society, Heather Spencer Feigelson has stressed that breast cancer is strongly dependant on body weight. ”Even modest amounts of weight gain lead to a significantly increased risk of breast cancer.”
