Surgery introduces hypnosis to beat soaring obesity rates
A doctors surgery in East Riding is to begin offering overweight patients the option of hypnotherapy in an attempt to cut obesity rates in the county.
Clinical hypnotherapist Shelia Granger is the newest member at Molescroft Surgery and is to work as a private alternative practitioner, trialling hypnotherapy as a treatment for obesity.
Ms Granger will be trying out a new weight loss programme which uses gastric band hypnosis in combination with other techniques. She recently trialled the scheme and achieved a fantastic success rate of 95 per cent.
Dr Guy Clayton who works at the surgery has said he is interested in the potential to help patients who are overweight, especially now surgical treatments for obesity are being limited.
“Obesity can lead to significant unhappiness and isolation in those affected, and also acts as a considerable risk for future diabetes, high blood pressure and other health conditions.” He said.

This is sooo great. Thank you for the article. Its refreshing that the medical community is opening up to hypnosis. I am also a hypnotherapist and work with weight loss. So few people know that there are alternatives to risky procedures. Thanks for spreading the word. One thing that I would like to add if I may is that getting weight loss surgery is very emotionally difficult, cause the reasons for over eating are still there. Many people even after the surgery will gain the weight back cause the emotional issues were not addressed. It all comes down to emotions and learning better ways to address our emotions than food (alcohol, drugs, t.v, smoking).
