U.S.A Michigan smoking ban has boosted alternative therapies
In May 2010 the US state of Michigan passed a smoking ban in bars and restaurants, since which alternative therapists in the area have seen a huge increase in business as people try out new ways to quit.
Since the smoking ban hypnotherapists and acupuncturists in the area have reported a huge boost in business as smoker’s are looking for alternative ways to give up.
One hypnotherapist in the area, Kim Manning, told a local newspaper that her business had increased by around 20 per cent since the ban kicked off at the beginning of May.
Fran Kulwicki 62, had been smoking since she was a teenager and has tried to quit several times but to no avail, that was until she tried Hypnotherapy.
In her hypnotherapy sessions she learned to substitute a glass of cold water for her nicotine cravings until the desire to smoke had disappeared.
The aim of hypnotherapy is to address the subconscious mind which is where our bad habits reside. Though different cases require different treatment a common method is that of visualisation, in which the patient visualises his or her life without cigarettes. This could be running a marathon without loosing your breath or tasting food with more sensation.
