Could Yoga benefit cancer survivors?

For thousands of years people have championed yoga for its benefits in relaxation, meditation and exercise. Not only does yoga help to keep us fit and healthy but it also teaches us to focus on our mind, body and spirit. A new study has provided welcome information which suggests that yoga can aid cancer survivors with sleep, energy and vitality.

410 cancer survivors who found it difficult to sleep were split into two groups. Half participated in two 75 minute yoga sessions per week, in addition to post-cancer care that the entire group received. The sessions were a combination of a number of poses based around breathing and meditation and at the end of the study the sleeplessness of the group had improved by 100 percent.

The half of the group who did not participate in yoga sessions only experienced a 1% increase of the participants ability to sleep soundly compared to the yoga group who doubled their stats.
