Women in labour employs hypnotherapist for pain relief

Whilst in labor, Louise Walker, 30, shunned the idea of conventional pain relief and instead employed a hypnotherapist to put her in a trance for the birth.

Hypnobirthing has seen a recent upsurge in popularity as mother’s to be look for drug free and natural ways for a pain free birth. The process can involve a course during pregnancy as well as listening to CDs, however it is extremely rare for a hypnotherapist to visit a women during labour.

Walker employed hypnotherapist Paul Hazel to put her into a trance whilst she was in a birthing pool. She described to the Telegraph how she was crying with pain until the hypnotherapy began, but as soon as it started she felt completely relaxed and hardly even felt the contractions.

Walker’s hypnotherapist asked her to remember a time in her life when she felt good about herself. The memory she chose was her wedding to her now husband Gareth. Hazel was able to carry out the hypnosis within a few minutes, resulting in a pain free four hour labor and successful birth.
