Testing Paul McKenna
A skeptical journalist from The Telegraph goes under Paul McKenna’s spell to see if hypnotherapy can shift her caffeine addiction.
McKenna is the author of numerous popular hypnotherapy books, the most recent phenomenon is his ‘I can make you thin’. An independent study of the programme found that 71 percent of people lost weight and kept it off for a period of two years. When 20 people tested it for GMTV, 90 per cent of them lost weight.
Journalist for The Telegraph Celia Walden asked Paul whether he might be able to use the principles of ‘I Can Make You Thin’ to cure her caffeine addiction.
After taking her through a number of steps, the first being a spot of Aikido to reduce emotional overwhelm, Celia found her stress levels dramatically reduced. After this it is time for the hypnotherapy from which Celia awoke to find that she was able to bypass Costa Coffee on her way back to work without so much as a glance. For two or three days she reported feeling far less stressed and was down to just one small coffee a day with breakfast. However the next week her habit returned to normal.
McKenna did stress that hypnosis is not a magical solution and like most treatments or medications will take more than one session in order for the messages to become ingrained. If this sounds like something that could be of interest to you then seminars are available for around £300 and are attended by 500 people at a time, they also claim to bring about results after a single day.
Alternatively you could purchase the ‘I can make you thin‘ app from iTunes which can give you that extra support.
I Can Make You Thin, complete with DVD, £14.99, Bantam Press. The next I Can Make You Thin seminar is on Saturday May 29 at the ICC Birmingham. See www.paulmckenna.com
