The truth about hypnotherapy
If you are thinking about hypnotherapy but your mind is clouded by some negative stories you have heard then here are a few myth busters:
The Hypnotist will be able to control my mind
This is not the purpose of hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is about retraining your mind and giving it positive suggestions that you want to be given based on the pre hypnosis consultation. For instance if you are trying hypnosis in order to loose weight, the hypnotherapist will retrain your mind so you don’t feel the need to snack as often. At no point during the session will you lose control of your mind.
I have never been in a state of hypnosis before
Actually we all enter this state of hypnosis at east twice a day, just before falling aslepp or when we first wake up in the morning. Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation and we often find ourselves in this natural ‘environmental hypnosis’ whilst watching a film, t.v when we are driving a well known route or whilst reading.
Hypnosis is a miracle cure
While hypnotherapy is quick and side effect free way of making permanent improvements it doesn’t mean it wil work first time. Like everything else in life the individual progresses at their own rate.
When hypnotised I will loose sense of my surroundings and will be unable to remember the session.
Hypnosis is not an unconscious state of sleep. In fact most people report having a heightened sense of awareness, concentration and focus, and can even hear more acutely during a session.
Self-Hypnosis is safer, better, or more effective than going to a trained professional.
Self hypnosis is effective but is best when taught by a trained professional. It is also great when used in conjunction with hypnotherapy session, this way when the patient ends their sessions they will be able to maintain the results with self hypnosis.
