Hypnosis can reduce chronic headaches in children
Research from the Mayo Clinic suggests that 90% of children under the age of 18 experience headaches, reports the Natural News.
Headaches cam be caused by a number of different influencing factors, from sickness caused by certain foods to mounting stress or injuries to the head. Studies show that hypnosis therapy can be used to cut down the number of headaches dramatically, particularity in children.
Chronic headaches are repeating headaches for at least 15 days a month for at least three months. Children are able to take control of headaches such as these through using hypnotherapy or self hypnosis as both will help them to gain control.
A study in the German Journal, Research in Complementary Medicine discussed how children’s headaches could become immune to medication after a prolonged period of use and instead thought that alternative forms of treatment should be explored. The study looked at two forms of alternative treatment, the first being hypnosis. Children would receive 5 sessions while having a headache (a week apart) and were also taught self hypnosis. The other treatment consisted of a combination of talking to their doctor and therapy sessions.
Results show that both forms of treatment were effective in treating the condition. However, hypnotherapy was found to be better at reducing the frequency of the headaches and children also reported feeling more in control of their headaches and well being.
