Pub to run anti smoking course
A pub in Wiltshire, rumoured to be where the first tobacco was smoked in England, is running and anti smoking course, reports the Press Association.
Sir Walter Raleigh is thought to have been the first person to smoke tobacco in the UK, and is thought to have done so just two fields away from where the Long Arms pub is located, in South Wraxall.
With the recent smoking ban, and credit crunch, the pub has lost several of it’s regulars and landlady Jacqui Price, is hoping that running this course will help the problem. She herself will be participating in the course, and she will be encouraging her customers to do so also.
She is using a hypnotist to run the course, in the hope that her customer’s habits can be changed permanently, without them having to spend money on expensive anti-smoking aids.
Ms Price said: “It’s ironic that we are running a stop smoking course somewhere so closely associated with the start of smoking in this country.
“We hope a place on the course might be a nice present for somebody. Giving up smoking is hard enough, so it would be great if people were able to enjoy themselves and have a drink while they’re doing it.
