Discussing the issue of control
An article over at the Examiner website discusses a common fear and misconception about hypnosis – the issue of control.
Many people say that are scared to try hypnosis due to feeling like they will no longer have control over their own mind, and not wanting to relinquish this control to anyone else who could make suggestions or give ideas the person may not agree with.
In a hetero-hypnosis session, often used for self-improvement, however, the person under-going the hypnotherapy is able to accept or reject the hypnotist’s ideas and suggestions. This means the person will always feel in control and able to reject anything they feel uncomfortable with. As the person has voluntary entered into the hypnosis session, this means that they will maintain the conscious ability to undertake or reject suggestions.
