Hypnotherapy could help ulcerative colitis
Trials have shown that hypnotherapy may be used to help treat ulcerative colitis, reports the Alternative Health Journal.
The illness is a form of irritable bowel disease, and affects the large intestine or colon, causing ulcers and open sores. It is similar to Crohn’s Disease.
The trails, carried out in the UK, saw 17 sufferers being given a 50 minute session of hypnotherapy which was designed to help them relax and reduce inflammation. After their session, the participants level of inflammation was measured, and there was 50% drop. After such a positive reaction after only one session, there are plans for more trials over longer periods of time.
It is hoped that hypnotherapy will be able to reduce the need for taking drugs to help control the illness, as well as improve quality of life for sufferers.
