18 chains sign up to display calorie content
In a bid to help tackle the UK’s obesity epidemic, many restaurants and food outlets will finally start displaying calorie content on their menus, reports the Telegraph website today.
As part of a Food Standards Agency and Government sponsored scheme, 18 chains have signed up for the changes due to take place by then end of this month. The chains, including Burger King, Pizza Hut, Pret A Manger and Waitrose cafes, will display the number of calories in a dish in a prominent place either on the menu or on boards on the wall, depending on the nature of the establishment.
It is hoped that eventually all restaurants and food outlets will display the information, helping consumers make an informed choice on what they eat.
