Relaxation helps with weight loss
It’s been said that being stressed can often make you lose a few pounds, but it seems the opposite can be true if you’re actively trying to lose weight, reports The Telegraph.
Increased anxiety can make people crave food high in sugar and fact, reports scientists, and feeling more relaxed will help alleviate this.
A study of 225 overweight or obese women was carried out over two years, using three different kinds of weight loss techniques. Those who took part in activities such as deep breathing, yoga and mediation were the only group that managed to lose weight, and also felt happiest overall.
Dr Caroline Horwath, from the University of Otago, in New Zealand, who led the study said: “By learning and practising relaxation techniques as part of a wider lifestyle change programme, women have effective tools to manage stress and emotions without resorting to unhealthy eating.”
