The man flu myth
The dreaded ‘man flu’, complete with whingeing and moaning should be renamed ‘woman flu’, as they do the most moaning, reports The Telegraph.
A survey of 2000 people carried out by Actimel showed that 85% of women exaggerated their symptoms to get more sympathy, as opposed to 76% of men. However, women are more likely to try and get better by eating healthily, and are better at preventing illness in the first place.
Gladeana McMahon, a consultant psychotherapist, was surprised by the findings: “Women tend to talk more about their feelings generally, but men it seems, appear to vocalise more when they’re sick – that’s where the myth around ‘man’ flu originated. So it’s surprising that these results show women to be the biggest complainers when it comes to colds and flu.”
