Tougher regulations for slimming products
A professor from Glasgow University has highlighted that most slimming products are simply conning people out of money with little or no benefits, reports the Guardian.
Professor Lean says that so called health foods have not been researched or trialled properly, and that many people trying to lose weight spend thousands on them with no results. He says: “It is already illegal under food labelling regulations to claim that food products can treat or prevent disease. However, huge numbers of such claims are still made, particularly for obesity.”
Last May new regulations were put in place to help combat false claims in such products, but Professor Lean claims more needs to be done to enforce them.
