Hypnotherapy for hot flushes in menopausal women
A study of 51 women, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, showed that there was a 68% decrease in hot flushes in the 26 women that received hypnotherapy, compared with those who didn’t receive the therapy. The majority of these 26 women also experienced less uncomfortable side effects of hot flushes, such as loss of sleep and social interaction difficulties.
Professor Gary Elkins, who led the study, said: “This study validates that this type of treatment is effective in decreasing hot flushes.” Researchers are now set to enlist 180 post menopausal women for a five year study to further analyse the response.
